Nandan Kanan is situated about 15 kilometers from Bhubaneswar, the capital town of the state of Odisha, India . Due to rapid expansion of Bhubaneswar towards Baranga, now the outskirts of Bhubaneswar is only at a few kilometer distance from Nandan Kanan.
Nanadan Kanan is a Zoological park. As the name implies it is truly a garden (kanan). The total area of Nandan Kanan is about 400 hectare. As it covers vast area so the tourists wishing have two options that is either avail the service of battery operated vehicles or travel by walk. By taking battery operated vehicle you are about to follow the schedule and timing fixed by the vehicle operators. In the year 2011 the booking of the whole vehicle was for Rupees 450 (1 Dollar = 46 Rupees approximately) and the tour is completed in one hour. It is always better to see the zoo by walking. If you plan to visit by walk then you have to spend minimum 3 to 4 hours. Doing so you get the satisfaction by proper management of your time. If you are with the family then I would advice you to spend time and enjoy by walking.
Nandan Kanan is the home to several endangered species. It is the place where maximum numbers of white tigers are seen. Here one can see many wild animals, reptiles and birds.
Some endangered species like Striped Hayena, Langur, Asiatic Lion, Indian Pangolin, Indian Python, Cassowary, Black Swan, Asian Elephant etc. are seen here.

Currently Monday is a holiday for Nandan Kanan and visitors are not allowed. So please avoid Monday for visit. It is better to consult the authorities concerned in advance.
